Reception

We have had an exciting time in Ladybirds this half term. As part of our RE learning about special places, we visited St. Mary’s Church, where Rob sent us on a treasure hunt to find the special things in the church. We have had visitors, including The Puzzle Company on Maths Day and more recently a fairytale workshop. We have been learning about our bodies and how we have changed and thinking about healthy living and eating.

Our role play area inside has included a baby clinic and a healthy kitchen whilst our outside area has been transformed into a garden centre and campsite. With the improving weather we have enjoyed more of our learning outside and have planted lots of fruit and vegetable in our garden. We are looking forward to our reception picnic on 21st May when we will prepare a healthy lunch for ourselves and share it with our parents and siblings.

We have been looking at non-fiction books and searching for information about how we have changed since we were babies. We had a lot of fun trying to guess which baby photo belonged to which child, and we even got to see baby photos of Mrs Skinner. We developed our understanding of information texts by making our own information posters, using a title, picture, label and caption.

We had a trip to the church and learnt a bit more about the history of St Mary’s. We focused on why the church is a special place to so many of us and what celebrations are held there.

We have been working on developing our problem solving skills in mathematical development and learning which resources to use to support us.

A great website that I have been recommending to parents to use at home is: http://www.sparklebox.co.uk/

You can download all the tricky words and sounds and great games to play with your children.
