Year 2 - Honeybees Class
Welcome to Honeybees Class, the class teacher is Miss Thompson and the teaching assistant is Mrs Patel.
Honeybees had a very busy second half of the term. It began with 'Friendship day' where the whole school took part in a dance on the playground. Each class had fun making up their own dance and joing together to perform.
We would like to say a big thank you to all of you who gave so generously to raise money for Children in Need. This meant the children could enjoy the pantomime put on by the staff. Take a look below!
Linked to our previous topic of the seaside, in DT we designed and made our own lighthouses. We were inspired by the book 'The lighthouse keeper's lunch' and made a lighthouse with a working pulley to get the lighthouse keeper's lunch safely to him.
We used a variety of tools and materials to create our lighthouses, some even had working lights!
In PE, we were learning about different ways of travelling and using different grips on the equipment. We had to support our own body weight and extend our arms and legs so we could hang still and straight.
Christmas Making day soon followed, we made lots of things including a felt bauble, giant stained glass windows, pin pictures and gift boxes.
In art we designed and made clay tiles to hang on our Christmas trees. We had been learning about repeating patterns and how to use different tools to make patterns and indentations in playdough and looked for patterns around our school and in famous buildings. We used this knowledge to make a decoration with a repeating pattern and Christmas theme.
The term ended with the Christmas Play - 'The Nativity'. Thank you for helping your child with their fabulous costumes and learning any speaking parts, they had great fun. It was the first time some of the year 2 children got to dance and/or play a musical accompaniment!
We loved our party on the last day!
We sang 'Away in a manger' as we lit our christingles. We thought about the meaning of each part of the Christingle and the importance of light at Christmas time.
Spring Term
This term we have a brand new topic in geography, we will be learning all about India, focusing on the village of Mettupalayam. We will look at home and school life, food, transport, music and Indian artwork. Later in the term the children will take part in an Indian dance workshop. Please let us know if you have any information or resources or would even like to come and talk about this topic with the children. If you would like to learn more about Mettupalayam, take a look at these photographs.
