Year 2 - Dragonflies Class

Welcome to Dragonflies class. The class teacher is Mrs Kelsey and the teaching assistant is Mrs. Tann. Mrs Jackson teaches the class on Wednesdays when Mrs Kelsey has leadership release.

Dragonflies class are enjoying their learning this half term which links to their topic, India. The children are learning about what life is like in a small village, Mettupalayam, which lies in the south of the country. Learning opportunities extend beyond Geography to music, dance, art and ICT, and all the learning gives a real purpose in literacy for writing.

Many of the children have researched information further at home and then shared this with the class to enhance everyone's learning. They are looking forward to an Indian Dance workshop at the end of January when they hope to learn some 'Bollywood' style dancing.

All the skills needed to paint a self-portrait are being learned in art and the children hope to have a gallery full of fabulous paintings ready before half term.

In science the children have been learning about animal classification and how different species vary according to their habitat. They have enjoyed creating their own animals with special features determined by the habitat in which they live and need to survive.

Whilst the children have said goodbye to Thomas who moved during the Christmas holidays they have warmly welcomed Bethan to the class and she has been making lots of new friends.
