Year 1 - Grasshoppers Class

Happy New Year from everyone in Grashoppers class!

The end of the Autumn term saw great excitement and learning. Some very special visitors flew in from out of space and landed their rocket outside our classroom! Alien and Ug wanted to help the children learn about Space in return for them teaching them about the local area. A deal was made and the children had great fun incorporating space into their light and dark topic. They used their own dark tent to investigate sources of light and were able to compare their brightness. The children enjoyed writing fantasy stories about Alien and Ug and their adventures in Space and used role play to help generate their own ideas.

The children kept the deal and drew maps and investigated the local area. We had a great trip out to see the features of the local area, visiting the high street and Reigate Castle.

For Children in Need, the whole school raised enough money to be treated to a pantomine performed by the teachers. They performed 'Jack in the Beanstalk meets Peter Pan' - see some of the pictures below!

We finished the term with a whole school performance of The Nativity. The children practiced really hard and performed brilliantly throughout three performances. There was also some festivie spirit in school when Father Christmas came to visit the children!
